Cutest Pumpkin In The Patch

This story actually begins seven years ago when Scott and I were carving out Madison's first pumpkin when I had a bright idea of sticking her in the pumpkin for a picture. Well, the first picture of Madison turned out so cute I had to take one of Makaylee in her first pumpkin when she was 2.5 months old. Of course I wanted to carry on the tradition but unfortunately was not able to pull it off last year with Macey because we had rough time with Makaylee at the pumpkin patch and was not able to get a large enough pumpkin and I have regretted it since. So this year I was determined to get Macey into a pumpkin. I was concerned about finding a pumpkin to the get those chunky legs into but hey I figured if she can squeeze into a hole in the lego table and she should fit into a pumpkin. Wrong. I had to trim that pumpkin down four times until we only had half of a pumpkin left. But that's okay, I got her in there.

As you can tell in the first picture she was not a happy camper. After a few minutes of getting used to being in there she was fine and I started firing away with the camera. I am so glad I did this, the pictures are priceless.

Pumpkin Decorating

We finally got around to decorating our pumpkins. Madison carved hers and then decided she wanted to paint it as well. After seeing her finished product I think she might need a lesson on applying make up. hee hee Obviously Makaylee is not old enough to carve so she painted hers. She also helped gut out the large pumpkin which really shocked me. I never would have imagined I would have seen her elbow deep in pumpkin slim especially since her new favorite phrase is "ewww, that's disgusting".

My New Hobby

Sorry I have been MIA the last week. My mom and her husband are here visiting so we have been quite the busy bees.

I have found a new hobby....canning. This is something I have wanted to try but I was under the impression you had to have a pressure cooker to do this type of thing. My mom informed me that there are two types of canning, cold canning and hot canning. Cold canning you do not need a pressure cooker. I asked her if she would teach me and she was more than willing to do so. Saturday we headed to the store and picked up our canning supplies and some peaches. I told mom that I wanted to do this myself with her only instructing so I would for sure know how to do this after she left.

I have to say it was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be and I was tickled peach with my new jars of peach preserves afterwards. So tickled that I went yesterday and bought some blackberries and will be making some blackberry preserves hopefully tonight. I am also looking forward to making some pickled green beans and asparagus. yum yum.

Pumpkin Patch Second Time Around

We finally made it back to the pumpkin patch since we did not get pictures the first time we went. The girls had a wonderful time trying to find their pumpkins they wanted to take home. Macey was too busy eating the dirt and weeds to find her own pumpkin so mommy had to help pick hers out. Makaylee wanted every pumpkin she walked by and Madison wanted the perfect pumpkin so it took forever for her to finally decide on one. When we were leaving the pumpkin patch Makaylee said to me, "momma thank you for taking me to the punkins". She always acknowledges when you help her do something and says "thank you" but this was the first time she had ever said thank you for us taking her somewhere and I love that she calls them punkins.

The first picture was taken in the middle of a small corn patch during sunset. One of my favorite things about where we live now are the amazing sunsets. The second picture was actually a fluke but I loved how it turned out with our silhouettes.

Flashback Friday

Do you remember these photos, The Nesquick Girl? They got quite the response when I emailed them out last year. She has not changed one bit, she still loved the "Rabbit" as she calls it. In fact, I caught her in the act again just about two weeks ago. After the below incident I had been putting the "Rabbit" on a higher shelf. Well the other week she got the bright idea to get my step stool and get it down of the shelf...yes I busted her again eating the powder. Oh, but you see it's not really Makaylee's fault. I also caught the culprit who probably taught her this little piece of work. Can you guess who it might be?? Dear old daddy. Yap, I walked into the kitchen the other day and busted him as well taking in a big tablespoon of the "Rabbit".

Loveable Huggable Sisters

I totally missed the perfect Kodak moment today. I walked around the kitchen island and caught Makaylee and Macey hugging each other. Macey actually had her arms wrapped around Makaylee hugging her, this was the first time I had ever seen her do that. I ran for my camera and of course they stopped immediately as I came back to snap a picture. I tried to get them to do it again but Macey wouldn't have it. Makaylee on the other hand was more than willing to love on her little sis.

Moments like this is what makes my crazy, insane, migraine headache, gotta have a break kinda days seem to disappear. I just hope they always get along like they do now.

Some Funnies

I took this picture of Makaylee today and it so shows her girly side. I don't normally dress my kids in character clothing or shoes, its just not something that I floats my boat if you know what I mean. But.....Minnie Mouse is always an exception, I love the mouse and always have and Makaylee does too.

Just a couple of funnies that has happened here in the house. Last night I told Makaylee is was time for bed and her response to that was, "OH MY GOSH, not again"!

Sunday night Madison was making herself some hot chocolate. She had put the cup of water in the microwave. I was blogging about our snow day and all of a sudden Madison just goes hysterically insane. She was frantically running from one end of the living room to the other saying something about the fireplace. I started smelling smoke and looked over and saw something was on fire in the microwave. She is still screaming and crying. I get the fire put out and see that she had put one of those aluminum travel coffee mugs in there to heat her water. Thank goodness the smoke alarms didn't go off because one of them is at the top of one of our 15 foot walls and our large ladder is at Scott's work. It totally stunk up the house. So we had to have a little talk about what is NOT allowed in the microwave. We also had to have a talk about how you need to stay calm in these types of situations because the girl was talking Japanese or something, I couldn't understand a word she was saying.

One other funny I forgot to mention a couple of weeks back. When the little ones were sick I was sleeping with Makaylee in Madison's room and Madison was sleeping with Scott. The next morning Scott told me that sometime in the early early morning Madison got out of the bed, stood there and starting singing like she was performing at a concert and then just stopped and got back in the bed. Oh, how I wish I could have gotten that one on video tape.

Snow In October

We may have not gotten the snow that they had predicted here in the valley but Bogus Basin Ski Resort got a nice powder for the kids to play in. The kids had the most wonderful time playing in the snow today, they could have stayed out there for hours. They made snow angels and a snowboy. Makaylee will fight you tooth and nail that it is called a snowboy and not a snowman. Poor little Macey couldn't even walk in her snow suit. Eventual she gave up on walking and just crawled everywhere. I laughed so hard at her my stomach was hurting. She looked like the Michelin Tire Logo dude walking around. She also enjoyed eating the snow, I think that may have been her favorite part. The first picture was taken right after Makaylee decided to throw a snowball in Macey's face. You can tell Macey was thinking "you brat, what did you do that for".

Ramblings

It's been a while since I have seen this yummy drink. This morning it was 46 outside when I took Madison to school. So it was the perfect day to break out the hot coco. They are calling for snow tonight, can't wait to wake up in the morning to see if we have any. If we do, I am sure we will be making a trip to the mountains this weekend.

I found this pair of glasses in the Halloween dress up box and of course Makaylee thought they were just the coolest things ever. She has had them on for two days straight now, as you can see in the second picture she even took a nap in them. She has that eclectic look when it comes to clothes, you know, a little bit of everything. Don't you just love the princess dress, snow boots and a pair of 50's glasses.

I had mentioned the other day that Macey's vocabulary is expanding. She tries to repeat what you say all the time now. She has really been giving me a run for my money here lately. The little stink is into everything. Yesterday, she actually crawled up onto the couch by herself. Oh lord help me. Today Makaylee was holding herself and I asked if she needed to go potty. Macey heard what I said and went straight to the bathroom door and waited for us. She also brought me her empty sippy cut today and I asked her if she would like so more milk and she went to the refrigerator. She has also started pointing her finger and saying, "don't". Obviously she is repeating me, afterall, I only say it to her fifty times a day. My baby is growing up, sigh, it makes me sad.
Here is a picture of my cutie pie hubby that I took the other day.

Madison's Chocolate Pie

Madison has became really interested in cooking lately. She makes all kinds of concoctions with food all the time and wants Scott and I to be the taste testers. Let me just say, their not always the yummiest things to try. I have been trying to let her help me as much as possible when I cook and she has been doing a great job. Her favorite thing to make currently is chocolate pie. It is her favorite because she can make it with no help from me. I think it's great she is doing this on her own, it gives her practice on reading instructions and measure things.
